The world is full
of communication. According to thefreedictionary.com communication is defined
as, “the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speeches,
signals, writing, or behavior”. Although
there a lot of different forms of communication, the type communication I
respond better to is visual, audio and written communication. I respond better
to these type of communication is because when it comes to learning new things,
I tend to remember these forms of communication better, then I any other form
of communication. Verbal communication is my least favorite favorite form of
communication because I tend to hear what someone is saying to me, but I’m
likely going to forget what I was told.
My memory is very good when it comes to visual communication, especially
when it comes to drawings and pictures.
When it comes to
visual communication that it is imperative to include images, symbols, color
and even type if it is necessary. Unlike, verbal communication, visual
communication doesn’t have the luxury to communicate out loud, so the visual
needs these tools to make sense. Without these tools, the person looking at the
visual won’t understand what is being communicated.
There are not a lot
of people or companies that have strong visual communication that stands out to
me, except Apple, Domino’s and Snapchat. I choose these three is because their
visual communication tools are very memorable, simple and you will instantly know
that they belong to their respective companies the minute you see it.
Apple is a
technology company that deals electronics of all sorts. In my opinion Apple is
very smart for using an apple for logo for their company. Although this logo is
very simple, it is very easy to remember and instantly know what company it
belongs. The Apple logo looks like no logo, which helps people who have heard
of it or may have seen it once, easily recognize it.
Domino’s is a pizza company. Domino’s was also
very smart for using the “dominos” logo that they use to promote their brand.
Whenever I see that domino logo, I instantly know that it has to do with the
pizza brand Domino’s. It is easy to see the difference between the Domino’s and
other pizza companies with its logo. The logo usually only deals with only the
colors red and blue.
Snapchat is a very
popular social media outlet that allows their user to post pictures and videos
on their account to share with their followers. On Facebook and Instagram if
you like someone’s photo that was posted, you have the option to click a heart
symbol that allows you “like.” The best part about this app is that unlike
Facebook and Instagram, you don’t receive “likes’ for your photos and videos.
Also, the photos and the videos only last 24 hours, and then they automatically
get deleted. This app is also very popular with it’s users because of the
graphics that come with the app. With Wi-Fi, the user gets to display a geotag
on their picture that usually shows a graphic with their location.
Overall it is very
imperative for a company to make their logo appealing and memorable. If the
company’s logo is boring and un-attractive, the logo could turn consumers away.
A good visual for a company should be able to comprehend the company’s image
that they are trying to portray.
