There’s no law and order without some Chinyere

                                         

      

I choose this picture for my postcard because this is the same picture I used for my law school admission exam. You’re probably thinking what does that have to do with anything, so I’ll explain. In order to enter into the law school exam, you need a picture of postcard sized picture of yourself, to prove that you were yourself. This picture symbolizes my ticket into a better life. Without this picture, I would have not been allowed into the exam. Without this picture. my dreams of becoming a lawyer will not come true. This picture means a lot to me. That’s why I incorporated the scales of justice behind this very picture. It symbolizes my goal of one day of not becoming a statistic. It symbolizes my goal of becoming a role to young girls and boys from my side of Buffalo who do not believe in themselves. It symbolizes my goal of one day becoming a lawyer and making my parents proud.

The green and white used in my background represents my culture, and never ending pride I have for it. I wasn’t always proud of my culture; I was actually very ashamed. Growing up I was picked on for being “different.” I was not accepted by my peers and I was ridiculed daily. I put the Nigerian flag to show myself and others that my culture will always remain with me no matter where I go. I put this Nigerian flag to show others who insecure about who they are that it’s okay to be different, and that being different is what makes you special from everyone else.

The fonts I used were the Lion King font and the Neos font. I downloaded both of these fonts from Dafont.com. I used them because I knew they would be very appealing. Another reason why I choose to use these fonts is because Lion King was my favorite, this font reminded me of my favorite childhood movie “The Lion King.” The movie The lion king movie is originated in Africa, where the main character learns in the end to take pride in himself and also pride in where he’s from. which ties in with the theme of my postcard.

When creating the postcard, I incorporated the design hierarchy and was it was very successful. The way I incorporated the design hierarchy was by adding the text wrap to middle so that the viewers would be able to read the words in my bio clearly.   

 Using all three applications InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop for this assignment was a requirement because it helped sharpen up our skills. Funny thing is that before taking this class, I used to be an art major in high school, who dealt with nothing but Photoshop and Illustrator but for some reason this class made me forget everything I learned. This project taught me new ways on how to maneuver these applications that I previously did not know how to do to before. Even though we had to use these application individually, I believe I gained the most knowledge in this project through Photoshop.

            In Photoshop I learned from the project how to finally use the pen tool properly. Whenever I was asked to clear the background of a picture, I always used the magic wand, has a shortcut, but for this project this wasn’t the case. I would use the magic wand multiple times, clearing the background of my profile pic, and I would save it under so many formats hoping that I would it save with no background for InDesign. WRONG! Each time I would place the image in InDesign, it always came with the background. I decided to swallow my pride and finally ask the professor for help. She explained the reason this was happening was because I was not clearing the path with the pen tool. I finally had the answer to all of my Photoshop problems. The minute she explained that to me, I felt the shadow of doubt that hovering over me, disappear.

        Overall,  This assignment taught on how to think like a graphic designer, Before, taking this class this semester, I never in a million years would think I would able to think of a concept and actually create it. My postcard tells a story, without even having to look at the words in the bio. It tells a story of Nigerian girl, who has a big smile, and also an even bigger pride in her country. 

HTML Your way into my life

“Welcome to the real world”, was the first thought that came to my mind when I found out about this website. I knew that website was going to require me to put my “big girl” pants on, figure out how to do some something on my own. On the bright side I knew that with a help of few codes, the whole world (or maybe just my friends and family) will be able to see what creativity and skills I have. I knew there was no way my blog could be boring, so I knew I had to include something that represented me the most, my culture. I wanted who ever clicked on the link that would take them to my website, to see my Nigerian pride. In order to do that I had for my culture by making the Nigerian flag my header. There would be no mistake, by the time a viewer left my website they would know who Chinyere Nwabugwu is with the help of my webiste.

My website will promote my ability to create flyers. Viewers of my website will be able to see my previous projects that I have created. Most of the flyers were created when I was PR for was on the Fashion Student Association club here at Buffalo State, and the other projects were made this semester. I made sure to include in my portfolio section the projects that I was the proud of.

Social media is very important to most people in society. To understand who someone really is, sometimes a bio on a website isn’t enough. Some people feel like social media accounts able paint a better picture of someone, and I agree. Social media accounts tell a story about you, that the viewer gets to read. For an example my website has a link that will take the viewer to my blogger website. My blogger website allows the viewers to see what kind of thinker I am with my blog post. My blogger also allows the viewer to see what kind of writer I am as well. Overall social media links on a website is very important, in order for the viewer to get a bigger perspective about the person the website it about.   

My experience with this project wasn’t very easy. I doubted myself majority of the time while I was creating this website. I didn’t believe I could do it, because to me Dreamweaver looked too complicated for me to comprehend. I saw others getting the hang, but for some reason I was always last to understand anything taught. This website helped me find a new version of confidence. This project also taught me in the end if you can believe in yourself you can conquer anything, even html codes. I’m very proud of myself for completing this project, it wasn’t easy but the knowledge I gained at the end was very worth it.

Eye Catching Logos

Eye-catching logos are imperative for the success of a company. The company’s logo is the face of the company. The logo is the company’s visual identity. The logo sometimes helps the public get a better understanding of who the company is and what they stand for. Poor designs that are used as a logo, can have a negative impact on a company and deter people away.

Company: Play Boy

                                                 

The Play boy bunny logo could be seen as very thought-provoking. The logo makes could make someone think “hey what is this company all about?” The logo is simple and intriguing and would make someone want to know more about the company.

Company: Target

                                    

Although the company Target logo is very simple, it also very attention-grabbing. It catches the eyes of the consumer with the target symbol and color. The logo is also relevant to the company.   

Company: Taco Bell

                                     

The colors on the Taco Bell logo is very appealing. The color alone would attract me to this company. The bell on the logo also is a memorable attraction, that customers would recognize anywhere.

Company: Universal Studios

Universal studios logo is very eye-catching. The logo is another that is relevant to company with the use of the image of the earth. The colors use in the logo are very rich and appealing and memorable.

Company: NASA

                                        

The company NASA logo could be seen as very noticeable. The three colors used are very effective to catching one’s eyes. The logo gives off this feeling that your looking into spaces, with the stars that are included in the design.

Overall it is very important for a company to make their logo appealing and memorable. If the company’s logo is boring and un-attractive, the logo could turn consumers away. A good logo should be able to comprehend the company’s image that they are trying to portray. 

What they do not tell you about college in the movies.

College is the goal that most people have after high school. They can’t wait to get their diplomas, pack their bags, and head off to the land of the free. According to the movies that most watch before attending college, show that college comes with all the freedom that their parents have been preventing them from having all these years.  In the land of the free, you can drink till your eyes fall out.  You can become popular and join a fraternity or sorority, and feel like you’re on top of the world with all the connections you’ll be able to make. And since there is so many people in college, you can change your sex partners like you change your clothes. Unfortunately, the movies never explained that the land of the freedom may come with a price, your life. Most students who enter college are not educated enough about the bad side of the “land of the freedom,” and how some people do not make out healthy or even alive.

STDS
            According to nursingschools.net sexually transmitted diseases rates are much higher among teens and young adults than any other age group. Most college believe that are not at risk of contracting an STD. The website states otherwise. One in four students are estimated to contract an STD during their four years of college. The smaller the population of students in the college community the bigger chance the students have to acquire an STD. It is very important for college students to educate themselves about sex and what may come with it. Many students don’t realize that many of these STDS are untreatable and can be carried with them for the rest of their lives. School health centers know the high risk that students have when it comes to STDS, so they offer free condoms and sexual education courses. Students tend to not utilize these resources that their school health center provides for them, till it’s too late.

Fraternity and Sororities

Majority of college students attend college to get their degree. Before attending college most student’s watch movies that deal with college, to get a better understanding of what to expect. In the movies that show the life of a college students, you see the “popular” students. The ones who have all the friends, and get invited to all the parties. You see the guys who get all the girls, or the females who have other females dying to be their friend, and guys begging to be their boyfriend. Those popular students in the movies tend to have letters on their clothing. Those letter represents Greek organizations, known as fraternities and sororities. Majority of the students that have watch those movies come to college and develop this feeling of wanting to belong to Greek organization. Most of those same students who are interested in these organizations did not learn from those movies the dark side of some of these organizations. Movies did not teach them about “hazing.” Babson.edu defines hazing as an activity that is expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuse or endangers them, regardless of a person’s willingness to participate. It’s important for students educate students on the dangers of joining a Greek organization, because the lack of knowledge can cost the student their life.

Drinking and Driving

In a lot of movies that portray a life of a college student, you tend to see that college student going a lot of parties. In those parties, you tend to see tons of drinking going on. After those parties are done, you sometime see the characters get in a car, and attempt to drive home.  Most movies don’t explain to viewers the bad outcome of driving after drinking. A lot of college students feel that they are invincible, especially when they have alcohol in their system. They believe that they can do anything, including driving while intoxicated. According to collegedrinkingprevention.gov, about one-half of all fatal traffic crashes among 18-24 year olds involve alcohol and most of the people who have died in these crashes are college students. Well.wvu.edu reported alcohol related crashes kill one person every 31 minutes and injures one person every two minutes. The website also reported that 1,700 college students doe each year from alcohol related accidents, including car accidents. Majority of students either don’t know these numbers or don’t care, until it’s too late. Educating college students on the dangers of drinking and driving is very important and vital for their safety.

College is a beautiful experience for the majority of people who get a chance to go.

College comes with many lessons, that most college students learn outside of the classroom. A lot of people who come to college spend their four years at their institution with no problems, and others don’t get that same pleasure. Although college can be very fun, it can also become very dangerous. Life is all about choices, and its very important that students educate themselves not only about the bright side of college but also the bad side too.
